Tirichmir School: Building a Community Hub for Skills and Opportunity in Upper Chitral, Pakistan

High in the mountains of northern Pakistan lies Lasht Sultanabad, a remote community in Upper Chitral where beauty and hardship exist side by side. Snow-covered peaks frame the valley, but behind the scenery, families face poverty, scarce employment, brutal winters, and the lasting effects of floods. For children and young people growing up here, access to quality education in rural Pakistan is limited, and opportunities are even harder to find.

Our AIM Foundation is working to change that, starting with a single school. The Tirichmir School Skills and Opportunity Incubator aims to transform Tirichmir School from a place of basic learning into a thriving community hub where children learn, women earn, and young people prepare for a better future.

Why a School Can Become the Heart of a Community

In remote regions, schools are often the only shared public space. They have buildings, trusted teachers, and the community’s goodwill. This is why we believe a school can do far more than teach. With the right investment, it can feed children, train young people, support women’s income, and strengthen entire families.

One school. Many opportunities.

Five Connected Initiatives Under One Roof

1. Better Learning for Children

Our first priority is a safe, supportive learning environment for 75 schoolchildren. When children learn in dignity and comfort, they are more likely to stay in school, build confidence, and aim higher.

2. A Nutritious Meal at School

Hungry children struggle to concentrate. We plan to provide mid-day meals to 75 children, Monday through Friday, helping them stay nourished and focused. School meals are widely recognized as one of the most effective ways to support both attendance and learning.

3. Digital Skills for Young People

We will create a 10-workstation computer and digital learning centre. Young people will learn computer literacy, MS Office, internet skills, communication, digital marketing, SEO, e-commerce, and other practical tools. These skills can open doors to freelancing, online work, and small business, even from a remote mountain valley.

4. Skills and Income for Women

The community already has talent. Many women are skilled in sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving, carpet-making, and traditional handicrafts. What is missing is the opportunity to turn those skills into sustainable livelihoods. We will support 50+ women with training, equipment, production support, and market access.

Our model is simple:

Skills → Production → Market Access → Sales → Income

Chitrali craftsmanship is admired for its quality. With reliable production and access to markets, it can become a dependable source of family income.

5. Reliable Solar Power

Electricity is a major challenge in remote regions. A 10 kW solar power system will provide dependable power for classrooms, the digital learning centre, the women’s skills centre, the kitchen, and essential school operations. Solar energy also reduces long-term running costs, making the hub more sustainable.

Warmth During Chitral’s Winter

Winters in Upper Chitral are severe. Children walking to school in freezing conditions often lack proper clothing and footwear. As part of this initiative, we aim to provide essential winter clothing and footwear to help protect children through the harshest months. Warm children are healthier, attend school more regularly, and learn better.

The Ripple Effect: How One Hub Changes Many Lives

When these initiatives work together, their impact multiplies:

  • A child learns and grows in a safe, nourished, warm environment.
  • A young person gains digital skills that lead to income.
  • A woman turns an existing skill into earnings.
  • A family becomes more resilient against shocks like floods and harsh winters.
  • An entire community moves toward self-reliance.

This is what community development looks like at its best: not charity that fades, but opportunity that grows.

Why Our AIM Foundation?

Our AIM Foundation has worked with underserved communities for more than 18 years, with programs in education, healthcare, empowerment, hunger prevention, and community development. That experience shapes how we plan, deliver, and stay accountable. We know that sustainable change requires listening to communities, building on their strengths, and staying committed for the long term.

How You Can Help

We need partners who believe that remote communities deserve the same opportunities as anyone else. Your donation can help provide:

  • Classroom support and a better learning environment
  • Daily nutritious meals for children
  • Computers and digital training for youth
  • Equipment, training, and market access for women artisans
  • Solar power for the entire hub
  • Winter clothing and footwear for children

Every contribution, large or small, moves this vision closer to reality.

Give a Child a Chance. Give a Community a Future.

The talent is already in Chitral. What the community needs is a partner. Help a child learn. Help a woman earn. Help a community build a better future.
