Protecting Young Eyes, Supporting Bright Futures: Our Aim Foundation’s Eyewear Screening Program in Bilaspur

Good vision is the foundation of learning, yet many children go through school with eye problems that no one has noticed. In September 2026, the Eyewear Program of Our Aim Foundation (OAF) brought school eye screening and eye health awareness to students in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

A Two-Day Screening Camp for Students

On 7-8 September 2026, OAF held an eye screening camp at SEGES Boys & Girls School in Sarkanda, Bilaspur. The camp was led by Dr. Abhishek Kaushik, with Ashwani Rajput as Project Coordinator and AIM student representatives as volunteers. Its goals were to identify vision problems early, raise awareness about eye health, and provide free spectacles to students who need them.

Why School Eye Screening Matters

Vision problems can affect a child’s concentration, classroom participation, and academic performance, and they often go unnoticed in the early stages. Limited awareness and limited access to screening make early identification even more important.

What the Camp Delivered

Students went through registration, basic eye screening, and vision testing. The team also provided counselling, awareness sessions on eye health and hygiene, and referral support for any student needing further consultation. In total, 40 students were screened, and no vision defects were identified. The camp still helped students understand why regular check-ups and timely treatment matter.

Positive Community Response

Parents and school management responded warmly to the initiative. Some families asked for more guidance on their children’s vision concerns, which shows how much continued awareness is needed.

Looking Ahead

OAF plans to hold regular follow-up screenings, continue supporting free spectacles, run ongoing eye health awareness activities in schools, strengthen referral links with eye-care hospitals and specialists, and develop an annual vision screening program that also engages parents.
