Muthi Nhlema is a trained civil engineer and holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School – Heriot Watt University. While Muthi has more than 20 years of post-graduate experience in the social development space, he has spent most of that time in the water sector in Malawi focusing on sustainable service delivery, systems strengthening, data governance, and social innovations. Alarmed by the lack of urgency regarding the dwindling groundwater supplies, Muthi founded BASEflow in 2017, an award-winning social enterprise based in Malawi that is working to improve the sustainability of groundwater resources for rural populations to access safe drinking water. He is currently the Team Leader of the organization where he enjoys spending each day working to realize ‘a world where no borehole runs dry.
