Muthi Nhlema is a civil engineer with an MBA from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University. With over 20 years of post-graduate experience in social development, he has dedicated a significant portion of his career to the water sector in Malawi. His work primarily focuses on sustainable service delivery, systems strengthening, data governance, and social innovations. In response to the critical issue of declining groundwater supplies, Muthi founded BASEflow in 2017, an acclaimed social enterprise committed to enhancing the sustainability of groundwater resources, ensuring rural populations have access to safe drinking water. Currently, he serves as the Team Leader of BASEflow, passionately driving the organization’s vision of achieving “a world where no borehole runs dry.” In addition to his role at BASEflow, Muthi Nhlema serves on the advisory board of Our AIM Foundation, where he contributes to our mission of promoting water and sanitation, women’s empowerment, education, and food security.
