Grand kids (ALF's) and Close2Heart (Hospice) are two award winning programs that bridge the gap between two most valuable yet extremely vulnerable sectors of our community seniors and youth. We created sensitivity training and 7 week activities where youths experience being elderly by maneuvering wheel chair, open medicine bottles wearing mittens and reading with smudged glasses to understand the sensitivity of being elderly. These trained youths are paired with isolated elderly in Assisted living facilities and Hospice facilities with common passion or profession to make instant connection. They meet each week to play different activities and bonding happens is magical. we have tear up stories of how seniors have felt worthy of their lives and youths all inspired yet humbled for true blessings of life. in the end of 7 weeks they make amemory book of their adopted gran parent and present it to them about their child hood, school and college, carriers accomplishments family trees and words of wisdom. this precious they have talk about diffgeret napired with common interest or past vulnerable segments of our community, teens and seniors.11 million, or 28% of people aged 65 and older live alone and experience isolation.
